Karen's the president of the school's Game Club and, well, pretty much universally acknowledged as the most beautiful girl around. She's got that whole image to maintain, which makes what happens next kind of awkward for her. She invites Keita to join the club, gets turned down—twice—and instead of moving on, she develops a genuine crush on him. After that, she basically starts following him around, though she's careful about it since she can't exactly let everyone know she's chasing after a guy who rejected her. The contrast between her perfect public persona and what she's actually doing becomes kind of the whole thing with her character.
