Maria is the artificial intelligence system running the Fraxinus, the main airship used by Ratatoskr. She handles the logistical side of Shido's dates with Spirits—basically compiling all the data and options the crew feeds her so he knows what to do.
Originally, she couldn't interact with the crew directly, just process information behind the scenes. That changed after the Fraxinus got upgraded to the EX model, which gave her the ability to actually talk to everyone aboard. Once she could communicate, she started chiming in during combat situations too, offering tactical input when needed.
