She's chained to a throne in a tower fortress and comes across as a surprisingly hapless villain—mostly because she has to answer to Gaikotsu, a talking skull perched on her head that punishes her whenever she tries to help the heroes. Her main scheme involves using a fishing rod with a guillotine attached to snag heroes from the outside world and drag them down to the underworld to keep her company in the game.
She's got an odd speech quirk where she ends sentences with "tima," which fans suspect is a nod to the Ultima series. The character itself is pretty clearly a parody of Asahina Mikuru from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya—same maid outfit, same "Mikuru Beam" pose energy.
Beyond her main appearance, Maou shows up again in episode 50 hosting a quiz game, and she can also be spotted in the inner cover comic of Volume 13 (the one hidden under the dust jacket with Nadja Orumuzuto).
