Daryun starts out as a high-ranking military officer before getting demoted early on in the story. His new job: bodyguard and confidant to Prince Arslan. The two develop a genuine friendship, though Daryun's loyalty runs deeper than that—it's almost samurai-like in its intensity. He's made it clear to Arslan that regardless of where he actually came from, he sees him as his true prince, no questions asked.
What really sets Daryun apart is his combat ability. He's genuinely legendary with a sword. Prince Rajendra has even gone so far as to call him the greatest warrior in both Pars and Shindra combined, which is basically the highest compliment you can get in that world.
