Maruo Eiichirou is a fifteen-year-old tennis player who's impossible to miss—mostly because of his distinctive hair, which his teammates have nicknamed "rooster hair." He's best known as the studious, perfectionist type, which earned him the nickname "Ei-chan" thanks to his consistent straight A's. Despite being an honor student, he's never been particularly athletic, so he ended up joining the Southern Tennis Club to round out his skills.
As a player, he started out pretty green—struggling with the basics and having trouble keeping up with the more experienced members. But he's been working to improve, driven partly by his crush on Takasaki Natsu (or "Natchan," as he calls her), a fellow club member and classmate. She's become a big source of motivation for him, though he's still figuring out how to balance his perfectionism with the reality of being a beginner on the court.
