Char Aznable assigned Denim to lead a reconnaissance mission to Side 7 alongside Slender and Gene, tasked with surveilling an Earth Federation base that was shipping out a prototype mobile suit. Things went sideways when Gene ignored orders and attacked the base directly—Denim had to back him up, no question. Then Amuro Ray showed up in the RX-78-2 Gundam and tore Gene's Zaku to pieces. Denim pulled the retreat, but Amuro caught Gene's suit as it fled and destroyed it. Enraged over losing his comrade to a rookie pilot, Denim made one last desperate charge at the Gundam. Amuro, worried that destroying the incoming Zaku would rupture its reactor and level Side 7, drove his Beam Saber straight through Denim's cockpit instead. The mobile suit stopped dead—and Denim was incinerated inside.
