Ananda
Ananda is best known as one of Buddha's most important disciples, though his path there was pretty unconventional. He's the half-brother of Devadetta (mentioned in book 3), and his backstory is dark—he was originally a criminal before turning his life around.
His early life was shaped by a deal struck between his father and the devil Mara. When Ananda's father offered him up to Mara in exchange for his own life, the devil ended up taking Ananda under his protection instead. Things got worse when his mother was murdered, which sent Ananda into a spiral of rage. He became consumed with the idea of getting revenge on all of humanity, but Buddha eventually intervened and saved him—both literally and spiritually—pulling him out of that darkness and onto a better path.
