Robbie ran Stern's Diner in Frankfurt and was basically Martin's only real friend. They had that comfortable kind of relationship where they'd needle each other constantly—Martin was always griping that Robbie forgot his usual order, which probably annoyed him more than it actually should have. But underneath the teasing, Robbie clearly cared about the guy. He knew Martin was mixed up in something criminal, though he never made a big deal about it and kept his mouth shut.
At some point, Robbie noticed a man hanging around asking about Martin. He wasn't sure if the guy was Vietnamese or Chinese, but it was obvious he was looking for something. Turned out the man was trying to track down Eva Heinemann—Martin's ex-fiancée who Martin was protecting. After Martin took a bullet trying to keep Eva safe from the organization he worked for, Robbie drove him to get help from Dr. Kenzo Tenma, a fugitive doctor. He stayed with Martin long enough to hear his story before Martin died under Tenma's care.
