Kenren Taishou is Sha Gojyo's previous incarnation.
General of Heaven's Western Army. A notorious commander with a taste for saké, flowers, and women—basically the opposite of a rule follower. He started in the Eastern army but got demoted after sleeping with his superior's wife, which is exactly the kind of scandal you'd expect from him. He ended up under Field Marshal Tenpou's command, where he's spent most of his time being the responsible adult in the room. Despite his wild reputation, Kenren's genuinely good-hearted, especially around kids and his subordinates. He's got this older brother vibe that people respond to.
The running joke is that Tenpou couldn't function without him—Kenren basically manages Tenpou's entire life while Tenpou handles the big-picture strategy. It's almost domestic at this point. Long before things went south in heaven, Kenren was already skeptical of the system and its rigid rules. He got increasingly drawn to the lower world's art and culture, which eventually pulled him into situations involving Goku.
Physically, he's got short black hair, black eyes, and a sharp, sarcastic mouth paired with this disarmingly childlike grin that—fans often note—bears an uncanny resemblance to Sha Gojyo. He's obsessed with lower world goods like cigarettes, smoking whatever brands he can get his hands on since they're hard to come by in heaven. He's also shown wielding guns during his military work.
