We first meet Baji at Valhalla headquarters, where he's about to throw down with Chifuyu—his own vice commander and close friend—to prove his loyalty to the rival gang. Mikey had sent Takemichi to bring him back, convinced Baji had defected. But Baji flat-out refuses. He tells Takemichi he hates Toman and has no interest in returning, and he doesn't budge even when Chifuyu tries reasoning with him. It's a shocking moment that makes it seem like his betrayal is genuine. His actual reasons for leaving come to light later and are more complicated than they first appear.
