Leia and Mr. Jones are an older English couple who show up briefly when Tenma and Dieter are trying to hitchhike to Freiham. When Leia spots the two stranded on the roadside, she convinces her initially reluctant husband to pick them up. After the car runs out of gas and Tenma disappears to find help, Jones is skeptical—his old cop instincts are going off, much like Inspector Lunge's would later. But Tenma eventually returns with jerry cans, and the couple even takes him and Dieter to dinner, where Tenma suggests they order an Ungeheuer wine.
The real weight of their story emerges at Steinbach Castle. While visiting, Mr. Jones mentions that their son Robert once wrote glowingly about the place in a letter. His tone shifts when he admits that Robert murdered someone there—and he's now locked up in Stadelheim Prison in Munich. It's a devastating moment that reframes Jones' whole arc. Despite his suspicions about Tenma throughout their encounter, Jones later reveals he figured out Tenma was a fugitive after they'd stopped by a police station. But he's made peace with that. He believes Tenma is innocent, the same way he wants to believe about his own son—which is really what this brief encounter is all about.
