Paninya is a resident of Rush Valley who lost her legs and right arm in a train wreck as a child. Dominic, moved by her situation, fitted her with free automail legs and arm—a gift that essentially saved her life. Her prosthetic legs are no ordinary equipment; one conceals a carbine rifle and the other houses a switchblade, both built by Dominic himself. Thanks to them, she's capable of impressive speed and can jump distances most people couldn't manage.
Before meeting Winry and the Elric brothers, Paninya made her living pickpocketing tourists—a habit born partly out of a misguided sense of debt to Dominic. After a conversation with Winry, though, she had a change of heart. She realized that staying a criminal would betray everything Dominic intended when he gave her a second chance. She's since turned her life around, working legitimate jobs around Garfiel's shop and eventually becoming a roofer. Dominic initially wouldn't hear of accepting payment for her automail, but he's gradually come around as she's built an honest life for herself.
In the anime adaptation, she also sports an automail arm, which gets damaged during an arm wrestling match. The story hints that Dominic adopted her after the accident, and by the end of the series, she's shown helping Winry refine her automail craftsmanship.
