Kanata is the older of the Yatonokami twins. Growing up poor and orphaned in a rough neighborhood, he was mistreated by adults and learned early not to trust people—a wall he's kept up ever since. He's genuinely lazy and usually can't be bothered to do much of anything, but when it comes to his brother Nayuta, he's all-in. The guy will do whatever it takes for him.
Right now, he and Nayuta survive by taking on shady underground gigs and rapping for money.
Fans often describe Kanata as the "tsundere rapper"—hostile to basically everyone else, but he's got a soft spot that only Nayuta gets to see. His trust issues run deep, and he's made it his mission to protect his brother no matter what. There's a running gag throughout the series where Kanata absolutely loses it if anyone disrespects or bullies Nayuta, even if that person was genuinely just trying to be friendly with the group. Allen found this out the hard way.
