Background
Ilforte started out as a Gillian-class Menos in Hueco Mundo, part of a group led by Shawlong Kuufang and trained by Edorad Leonnes, Nakim, and D-Roy. The crew's strategy was straightforward: devour hollows to climb the evolutionary ladder and avoid getting stuck as basic Gillians.
Everything changed when they encountered Grimmjow Jaggerjack, a powerful Adjucha with a panther-like build who casually wounded D-Roy before things even got started. Shawlong immediately recognized Grimmjow's superiority and pledged allegiance on behalf of the whole group, believing he could lead them to become Vasto Lordes—the highest hollow class. Under Grimmjow's command, they did eventually reach that rank.
However, their growth hit a ceiling. After consuming over 3,000 hollows, Ilforte and the others realized their power had plateaued around the 1,000-hollow mark. Grimmjow, characteristically stubborn, wanted to keep pushing, but the rest agreed they needed to stop eating to prevent sliding backward. Grimmjow eventually accepted this.
In Bleach
Ilforte Grantz is a sarcastic, effeminate arrancar with long blonde hair and a broken helmet-like hollow mask fragment on his head. He's the older brother of Szayel Aporro Granz, the 8th Espada, and has a habit of calling people "brother" in conversation. He's decently strong for his rank—strong enough to hold his own against Renji Abarai's bankai at 20% power without even releasing his sword. That said, he's surprisingly outmatched by Ururu Tsumugiya in his base form, though he steamrolls her once he releases his zanpakuto. Renji ultimately kills him, and notes that if Ilforte hadn't been distracted, the fight could've gone differently.
Zanpakuto: Del Toro
His zanpakuto, Del Toro ("pale-horned prince"), is activated with the command "skewer." Upon release, Ilforte's upper body swells and encases itself in bull-like armor while his mask fully regenerates with prominent horns. He shifts to a four-legged stance and fights by impaling opponents on those horns.
