Alcyone is an ice sorceress trained by Clef who was supposed to serve as an attendant to the Pillar. Instead, she fell for the high priest Zagato—hard—and became his devoted servant, even though he never returned her feelings. Her unrequited crush basically defined her entire character arc.
The manga doesn't pull punches with her story. She fails Zagato twice and gets killed for it. The anime keeps her around longer, though her fate isn't much better. After Zagato and Esmeraude die, the witch Debonair captures her, brainwashes her into servitude, and uses her as a pawn. When Lantis eventually defeats her in battle, Alcyone loses her memories, but they come back. Before she can fully expose Debonair's plans and hideout to the heroes, Debonair kills her anyway.
The Sega Saturn game plays with her death scene—she seemingly dies, then reappears later in Zagato's palace toward the end.
Name notes: Early English manga releases misspelled her name as "Alcione." Her actual name comes from the Subaru Alcyone SVX. Spanish anime dubs called her Alanis instead.
