Ryunosuke Ibuki
Main character of Hakuoki Reimeiroku.
Ryunosuke comes across as stubborn and sharp-tongued, but there's genuine warmth underneath. After his mother died, he drifted without direction until a group of sonnō jōi rōnins ambushed him on the road to Kyoto—robbed him blind and left him to starve. Serizawa Kamo found him barely alive and brought him in, but there was a catch: Ryunosuke had to serve him in exchange. That's how he ended up at the headquarters of the group that would become the Shinsengumi.
Despite coming from a samurai family himself, Ryunosuke has developed a genuine hatred for samurai and everything they represent—understandable, given what he's been through. So there's an inherent tension in his new life surrounded by young men who are dead set on becoming samurai, who dream of nothing else. But as stubborn as he is, spending time with them slowly changes something in him. As he gets to know them and understands what drives them, his resistance starts to crack.
