Synopsis

Ryuunosuke Ibuki gets beaten and robbed of everything, left for dead. A man named Kamo Serizawa finds him and offers him a way out—become his personal assistant. It seems like salvation, but really, Ibuki just becomes another tool in Serizawa's hands. The guy's one of the most powerful men in Kyoto, and Ibuki's basically his dog. Meanwhile, ronin attacks are getting worse across the city. The shogunate decides to send the Roshigumi to Kyoto to restore order. The group's led by Isami Kondou, an honorable but quiet guy, and they're filled with skilled samurai. The problem? They have no political connections and no real footing in a city drowning in crime. Kondou's forced to make a deal with the arrogant Serizawa—they get his influence and connections, he gets their combat power. Ibuki hates everything samurai stand for, but he gets pulled into the Roshigumi's world anyway. As he spends time around Kondou's men, though, something shifts. He starts to see that not all samurai are the cruel, dishonorable bastards he thought they were. Hakuouki Reimeiroku follows the early days leading up to the Shinsengumi's formation, set against a backdrop of political chaos and mounting tension in Kyoto.
