Yukiji
Yukiji was a striking woman living five centuries before the main story unfolds. She's best known for her poised, composed demeanor—though she could be bluntly direct when the mood struck. She kept most people at arm's length, only letting her guard down around those she actually trusted.
Her past shaped her considerably. After youkai destroyed her entire village, she was taken in by her current family. That trauma left her with a deep, lasting hatred for youkai. Despite the pain, Yukiji's real driving force wasn't revenge—it was loneliness. More than anything, she wanted to build a family of her own, to stop being isolated.
The contradiction is pretty human: a woman who kept to herself desperately wanted connection.
