Favourite quote: "You were there for me, you saved me, much like what today, you asked me out on a date and showed me how nice this world is."
Tooka Yatogami is one of the main heroines of Date A Live and the first Spirit Shidou actually manages to save. She transfers into his class at the end of volume one, taking a name that came straight from their meeting date—the 10th—with Reine adding the surname Yatogami later on.
When Tooka first arrived on Earth, she was paranoid and defensive, constantly getting attacked by the AST before Shidou finally broke through to her. Once he sealed her powers, everything changed. She'd been completely isolated before that, so she experiences the world like a kid—emotional, energetic, sometimes gullible, and genuinely confused by normal human behavior. She's ignorant about how things work, but she's got a real sense of shame and embarrassment, which creates an interesting contrast with her naïveté.
Her whole perspective flipped once she met Shidou. Humans had always rejected Spirits, made her feel unwelcome, but he showed her kindness instead. Now she's all-in on helping him save other Spirits like Yoshino and Kurumi, even jumping into fights herself. That said, she's got this weird competitive thing going with Origami—mostly over Shidou, since they both clearly care about him. Tooka's feelings for him are strong enough that she doesn't even understand her own jealousy at first.
Despite the cool, powerful exterior she can pull off, Tooka's missing some basic life skills and has an almost comical love of food. She's surprisingly perceptive about what others are feeling though, especially when it comes to Shidou and the other Spirits. She vibes well with Kaguya and Yuzuru, though their weird speech patterns throw her off sometimes.
In combat, she's built for offense. Her Angel, Sandalphon, manifests as a gilded throne that doubles as a scabbard for her broadsword. She fights by either coating herself and her blade in mana for physical attacks or unleashing energy blasts, sometimes combining both. The throne itself works like a support tool—it can flatten into a transport vessel or split in half to unlock her weapon's final form, Halvanhelev. After Shidou seals her powers, she can still tap into her original strength if she focuses hard or gets emotional enough.
