Kassim grew up in Balbadd's slums alongside his sister and father, who abused them until Alibaba's mother, Anise Saluja, stepped in and took them both in. When Anise fell ill and died, Kassim became the one looking after the household. He and Alibaba essentially grew up as brothers on the streets.
Despite holding the official title of cadre in the Fog Troupe, Kassim is actually the group's true leader. He wields the magical weapon known as the Sword of the Black Binding Fog. His character was inspired by Kassim, the brother from the classic tale of Alibaba and the Forty Thieves.
