He's best known for his voice acting work and built up serious credibility in the industry starting in the mid-2000s.
In 2006, he had a breakout year—winning the Anican Japan Grand Prize for Male Seiyuu, the Best Male Voice Actor award at Anime Grand Prix, and a Manga Best Ten voice actor award. The following year, he took home the inaugural Best Male Seiyuu award at the Seiyuu Awards and scored the Anican prize again. He kept the momentum going in 2008 with a third Anican win and recognition at Animage's 30th Anime Grand Prix.
By 2009, his popularity had clearly spread beyond Japan. He won the Tokyo International Fair voice actor award that year and notably received the Overseas Fan's Award at the 3rd Seiyuu Awards—a category that had just been established. He also grabbed his second win at the 31st Anime Grand Prix.
