Ren's the kind of kid who'd rather suffer in silence than drag someone else into his problems. He's genuinely trustworthy and hardworking—the type who puts other people's needs before his own, especially when it comes to Haru, the man he's living with now (along with Haru's twin brothers Aki and Shima). He loves Haru, but that doesn't stop him from being annoyed when treated like a child, which happens more often than he'd like.
He's smarter and more perceptive than most kids his age, which probably comes from having to grow up too fast. His childhood was complicated and he has no memories of his biological parents, leaving him surprisingly naive about how the world actually works—though he's gradually learning as he settles into his new life in Japan.
As for quirks: he's got a genuine way with dogs and an oddly intense fixation on rice that even he probably can't fully explain. Despite his maturity, there's still something boyish about him, a kid trying very hard to act like he's got everything figured out when he really doesn't.
