Menma shows up years after her death asking Jinta to bring their old friend group back together—supposedly so her wish can be granted. Problem is, she can't remember what that wish actually is. She just knows reuniting everyone is somehow the key to figuring it out.
Despite being dead, she's weirdly upbeat and energetic. Jinta describes her as genuinely selfless; she cries easily when her friends are hurting, just never for herself. That said, Jinta's skeptical about the whole thing. He calls her "the beast of the summer" and suspects she's more likely a stress manifestation than an actual ghost—his mind's way of dealing with everything that happened.
