Milla Maxwell is one of the two leads in Tales of Xillia, and she's basically the living embodiment of Maxwell, the Lord of Spirits. She commands the Four Great Spirits—Efreet, Undine, Sylph, and Gnome—and is responsible for protecting the world and everything in it. Her main drive in the story is sensing a massive die-off of spirits and heading to Il Fan to figure out what's happening.
Despite her god-like status over the spirit realm, Milla is genuinely clueless about human life. She's fascinated by how people live and thinks about civilization constantly, which makes her earnest curiosity about mundane human stuff pretty endearing. She also doesn't experience hunger the way humans do—Mana basically fuels her instead—so that's another layer of disconnect between her and the party.
When it comes to her actual duties, she takes them seriously. Really seriously. She gets visibly annoyed with people who shirk responsibility or act recklessly, and she won't hesitate to do what needs to be done, no matter how difficult. She claims to have been sealed away in the mountains before, but the spiritual catastrophe was enough to pull her out and drive her straight into the military lab where the story kicks off.
