Hideyoshi started out in the Imagawa clan working under Matsushita Yukitsuna before eventually making his way into the service of Imagawa Yoshimoto. He went on to succeed Oda Nobunaga and is best known for bringing the Sengoku period to an end. Beyond his military achievements, Hideyoshi left a significant cultural mark—he's responsible for the weapon ban that restricted sword and gun ownership to the samurai class, and he poured money into Kyoto's temples, financing construction and restoration work on structures that still stand today.
