A swordmaster of the Shinsengumi and practitioner of the Tennen-rishin ryu style, Okita commanded the First Unit. He's best known for his rivalry with Kenshin—fans often note how he'd eagerly draw his blade whenever they crossed paths at night, always impressed by how Kenshin's Hiten Mitsurugi-Ryuu technique seemed to improve. In the OVA, he frequently fought alongside Saito and played a key role in the 1864 Ikedaya Affair.
