Frieren was the mage in Hero Himmel's legendary party—the last to join, but arguably the strongest. She traveled with Priest Heiter and Warrior Eisen on a ten-year quest to take down the Demon King. Himmel sensed her true power from the start, even though Heiter initially pegged her as average.
Being an elf who's lived over a thousand years, Frieren struggles to connect with humans. The lifespan gap messes with how she experiences time—what matters to them feels trivial to her since she'll have endless chances to experience it again. This comes across as laziness or emotional coldness. She'll casually say something harsh without realizing it stings, or miss obvious signs that someone's hurting. Even her old teammates couldn't always figure out what she was thinking.
Despite her immense magical ability, Frieren has an odd habit of collecting everyday spells and obscure grimoires—stuff like magic for polishing statues or blooming flowers. She'll demand a grimoire as payment even if she already knows it, or if she suspects it's a fake Flamme grimoire that someone's trying to pawn off.
After losing Himmel and Heiter, something shifted. Frieren decided she actually wanted to understand humans better. Now she's traveling north toward Ende, the continent's far tip where souls go and where the Demon King's castle stands. She wants to reach Himmel's soul and talk to him. Her companion is Fern, a war orphan that Heiter left in her care and who's now her pupil and apprentice—though the irony is Fern ends up looking after Frieren in everyday stuff.
