Atsumu grew up with Jinta and Menma, though their friendship clearly didn't last. These days he's pretty dismissive of Jinta—the tension between them is real. Mention Menma around him and you'll notice he gets visibly upset; he's never really moved past her death. He and Chiriko both made it into the same high school, which Jinta didn't manage to get into, and there was this whole awkward period where people kept assuming the two of them were dating.
