Hisana was Byakuya Kuchiki's wife and Rukia's older sister. She's best known for abandoning Rukia as an infant because she couldn't care for both of them—a decision that haunted her for the rest of her life. Years later, Byakuya married her despite his family's strong opposition to taking a commoner bride. Not long into their marriage, Hisana fell seriously ill. On her deathbed, she made Byakuya promise to find Rukia and look after her. He kept that promise, and Hisana died knowing her sister would be taken care of, even if she couldn't be there herself.
