Übel is a mage with the Continental Magic Association, and she's best known for her mastery of cleaving magic—an invisible cutting technique that can slice through pretty much anything within five meters, as long as she can visualize it being cut. What sets her apart from most mages is that she casts through pure intuition and feel rather than logical analysis, which actually gives her a weird advantage: she can pick up other people's magic by empathizing with them, understanding their emotions and their fundamental nature.
Her past is darker. She's strongly implied to have been involved in a series of murders while working as a third-class mage, and she got permanently disqualified from her second-class exam after killing one of the first-class proctors during the test. Fans and scholars have debated her motivations and temperament ever since.
