Chaoji was one of three crew members who survived the destruction of the Anita. When Lenali accidentally fell into the ark, Tiedoll sent her Innocence after her—and Chaoji happened to be nearby when it activated, allowing him to synchronize with it and become an exorcist himself.
His Innocence takes the form of a pair of linked bracelets on his left wrist and hasn't been officially named yet. So far, its only demonstrated ability is granting him superhuman strength in that arm. He's shown this off by single-handedly pulling Allen, Lavi, and Kanda out of a bottomless pit they were about to fall into, flinging all three exorcists into the air in the process.
