Favorite quote: "I. I'm not Yoshinon. I'm Yoshino. Yoshinon is my best friend."
Yoshino is probably best known as the second spirit Shido ever saved. She's a genuinely kind person—arguably the kindest spirit in the series—though she's also painfully shy. Her codename is Hermit.
Shido first spotted her as what looked like a lost kid in the rain. Their second encounter got complicated when the AST attacked her and she bolted. But by their third meeting, Shido realized something important: despite people constantly hunting her, Yoshino had nothing but kindness in her heart. That's when he decided to save her.
After Shido sealed most of her powers, she moved into temporary housing on the Fraxinus before settling into an apartment complex near Shido's place. These days she's been working with Ratatoskr on something pretty personal—learning to speak for herself without relying on Yoshinon, her rabbit puppet.
Yoshino's got the look of a young teen with blue eyes and matching blue hair. Her default outfit is a light-blue sundress paired with a massive green raincoat that has rabbit-ear hoods and a tail with a pink ribbon. She's basically always holding Yoshinon in her left hand—a mischievous white rabbit puppet with one black button eye (styled like an eyepatch with a brown band) and a tiny pink dot for the other eye.
The thing about Yoshino and Yoshinon is that they're. complicated. Yoshinon isn't just a puppet she plays with—it's actually part of how she deals with her own power and emotions. Yoshino created Yoshinon to keep herself from accidentally hurting people, and she's used the puppet's outgoing personality as a way to communicate since she struggles with it herself. Yoshinon basically became her hero, protecting her from the AST and helping her express herself. But as she's gotten more comfortable living a normal life with Shido, she's been pushing herself to talk without the puppet, even if it's hard.
Powers and Abilities
Yoshino can manipulate water in all its forms—solid, liquid, and gas. She's got serious control over the stuff, but she only uses it defensively because of her gentle nature.
Her Angel, Zadkiel, is a massive puppet that looks like a giant version of Yoshinon. In its first form it's got this creepy charm—huge, with one red eye and an eyepatch, sharp teeth, and pale skin. It can pull water from the ground and air to attack, and Yoshinon can speak through it. The catch is that Yoshinon also acts as a limiter, keeping Zadkiel from going too far and actually killing anyone.
The second form is Zadkiel's true form, and it's genuinely unsettling—even bigger than a building, no eyepatch this time, and way more powerful. Yoshino herself struggles to control it at that level.
When she activates Sirion, her armor mode, Yoshino basically fuses with Zadkiel. She ends up covered in ice-armored plating over her Astral Dress, and her water and ice powers spike to the point where everything around her freezes over. Shido said she looked like she was wearing the angel itself.
Her everyday Astral Dress, El, is defensive-focused and tough enough to tank an AST missile barrage without breaking a sweat.
Despite all this power, Yoshino's instinct in a fight is to avoid it altogether—she'd rather run or hide than actually engage. That pretty much sums up her whole approach to conflict.
