The Drunken Coach presides over the U-17 training grounds from atop a mountain—the unlikely destination Coach Saitō forces the eliminated middle schoolers to climb. When the 27 kids reach the summit, they discover the high schoolers who were cut at the tournament's start are already there, waiting.
What follows is a series of bizarre conditioning exercises. The Coach has them dig holes for his bathroom needs, sleep in caves, train in the rain at midnight, jog through forests while being chased by eagles, and—in one particularly memorable task—instructs Ryoma, Kei, and Kenya to steal sake from the main camp while navigating a laser obstacle course. It sounds ridiculous, but it works. The middle schoolers walk away with noticeably improved skills: Ryoma and Kintarō can now hit five consecutive balls, Kenya gains better balance and speed, Sakata learns to run in zigzags, Gakuto masters a low moonsault, Sanada's black aura grows larger and more powerful, and Kei loses a significant amount of weight.
The night before the Genius 10 Challenge, Coach Nyudō sends back the middle schoolers' confiscated jerseys, neatly folded in a box and dropped by airplane onto one of the camp's courts. Oni receives the delivery and distributes the jerseys.
It's only after the G10 matches wrap up that his true role is revealed: he's the head coach of the entire U-17 camp.
