Kanata came to Japan after finishing at a prestigious racing school in the UK, officially to join MFG but really to find his estranged father. He races under the surname "Katagiri"—his dad's name, not his mother's—which fans suspect is partly a way of announcing himself, hoping his father might notice. When he's not racing or preparing for competitions, he's hunting for leads on where his father actually is.
