Tamahiko Shima comes from money—his family's got serious wealth. A year before the story kicks off, he was in a car accident that killed his mother and left him unable to use his right arm. The accident messed him up pretty badly, both physically and emotionally.
His family dealt with it by giving him their mansion in Chiba and essentially buying him a bride for ¥200,000 to help him get by. Yeah, you read that right—they literally purchased someone to take care of him. It's a weird setup that kicks off the whole story, and it's exactly as awkward as it sounds at first.
