Rui starts out pretty closed off—blunt, stubborn, and honestly kind of indifferent to anyone outside her immediate family. Over her teenage years, though, she goes through real stuff: a messy one-night stand, a new step-family situation, and meeting a solid group of friends through the literary society. Her first experiences with love shake things up too. Through all of it, she learns to sit with complicated emotions and gradually opens up, becoming someone more honest with the people around her. By the end, her character is really defined by that growth and the hard lessons she picks up about life and relationships.
She's a passionate cook with legit skills on the slopes and ice too. Musically, she's all about classic Japanese artists—Miyuki Nakajima, Tatsuro Yamashita, and the like—which she'll happily subject everyone to during karaoke whether they're ready or not. She's got a soft spot for cats and uses a black cat as her phone's profile picture. When it comes to what scares her, thunder and lightning get to her, horror anything is off the table, and she can't stand prank shows or slugs.
