Yamazaki Susumu is a shinobi who works as an intelligence operative for the Shinsengumi, and he's earned serious respect from high-ranking members—Hijikata especially values him. His job is straightforward: gather intel around the clock, by any means necessary.
By night, he moves like a typical ninja, vaulting silently across rooftops. But during the day, he pulls off an impressive transformation—full kimono, powdered face, the works—and goes by the alias "Osei," passing himself off as an attractive woman to extract information. It's a cover that works.
Personality-wise, Susumu fits the ninja stereotype: cold, indifferent, and dismissive toward people he considers beneath him or weak. He doesn't get angry easily, which makes an exception worth noting—Tetsu is apparently one of the few people who's managed to get under his skin enough to make him actually lose his temper. Fans often note this as one of the rare cracks in his usual composure.
