Knight is Shobu's enigmatic mentor—soft-spoken and mysterious, with very little known about his past. He's best known in the English dub for his dry, witty inner monologue, which provides much of the show's more mature humor. Despite mentoring Shobu, Knight frequently finds himself unable to help when it matters most, either because Shobu's stubbornness gets in the way or because Knight simply isn't around when needed.
He's a skilled duelist with deep knowledge of the game, though his expertise doesn't always translate into being there for his student. Knight doesn't actually appear in the manga—that role is filled by the character NAC, who inspired Knight's creation. There's one memorable instance where Dr. Root had Knight adopt a "Dragon Mask" persona to challenge Shobu and help him reclaim his tournament pass.
Personality-wise, Knight is genuinely kind and gentle, but deeply enigmatic. He's got a somewhat awkward crush on his secretary that he's too nervous to act on, while his own student Saiyuki harbors an obvious crush on him. When he tried to help the monk Hakuoh at the temple, Hakuoh misread the gesture as jealousy.
In the anime's second arc, his look changes noticeably—he trades in his customary goggles and wears a more casual pink shirt, marking a visual shift in his character's presence.
