Shin-chan is the series' main character—a kindergartener whose constant shenanigans drive the plot. He's obsessed with Chocobis snacks and the superhero Action Kamen, but he's best known for his relentless pursuit of older girls and women, a trait he's inherited from his dad and grandfather. Mom usually responds to this by beating him senseless. He actually seems genuinely into one college student named Nanako, though his interest in most women is purely comedic. His other go-to bits include cross-dressing and flashing people, all done without a shred of embarrassment or self-awareness.
What's strange about Shin-chan is that despite being obnoxious, he's genuinely honest and curious about everything. And weirdly, his chaos sometimes accidentally fixes other people's problems. He's surprisingly talented too—he's decent at kendo and other activities when he bothers to try.
The kid does have a softer side, though it never lasts long. He once rescued a frog from traffic in the rain, getting completely soaked and risking his mom's fury since it was his last clean outfit. But by the next scene, he'd usually be back to his usual inappropriate nonsense, undoing whatever goodwill he'd built up.
There are rare moments where Shin-chan actually shows real maturity and thoughtfulness. During a trip to Australia, he noticed his friend Kazama's father looking sad on the beach and actually arranged for them to play ball together. These glimpses suggest there's more to him than just the gag character he usually is.
