Shoji Kodai commands a destroyer in the UN Cosmo Navy's Combined Space Fleet—a pretty big deal for someone his age. He got the assignment right out of Space Defense College, back when things were looking bad and experienced officers were getting killed off faster than they could be replaced.
He's best known as Susumu Kodai's older brother. The two are each other's only family after losing both parents to meteor bomb attacks during the war. That loss shaped a lot of who he is, though he doesn't dwell on it much.
