She's had it rough—bullied and ignored by basically everyone, including her own parents—so when she first arrives in this new reality, she's pretty ruthless. She doesn't trust anyone and acts like she's willing to do whatever it takes to survive.
That changes when Yuri Honjo saves her life. After that, Mayuko completely turns around and becomes devoted to helping Yuri, making it clear that loyalty means everything to her once someone actually shows her kindness.
