A legendary figure from the Tang Dynasty, Yuan Tiangang is best known as the Grand Preceptor—essentially the supreme leader of Bu Liang Ren, a secret organization that served successive emperors. He's remembered as an overwhelmingly powerful Taoist priest, the kind of presence that supposedly no one could actually stand against.
The thing is, his true identity was apparently kept under wraps and known only to the emperors themselves. According to the lore, he achieved immortality through elixirs and used his position to quietly pull the strings behind the throne, organizing Bu Liang Ren to advance the interests of whatever dynasty was in power at the time.
