Garfiel runs Atelier Garfiel, a respected automail shop in Rush Valley, and he's genuinely one of the best engineers around. He's the guy Dominic recommends when Winry shows up looking to learn the trade, and Garfiel's thrilled to take her on as a live-in apprentice. The whole town basically adopts her as family, but Garfiel especially treats her like she's his own kid.
He's got a pretty flamboyant personality—definitely the type who's more comfortable around guys—and fans often note that he becomes a source of comedy whenever he's on screen. His mannerisms and over-the-top reactions play up the humor in most of his scenes, which is pretty much his whole role in the story. But underneath all that, he's genuinely supportive and caring toward Winry and takes his work seriously.
