Kubota's the illegitimate son of Seiji Munakata, a guy who mostly operates in the shadows. He's got this curious nature—interested in basically everything but never really committed to anything, which pretty much defines how he moves through life.
He kind of drifted into Izumo without much fanfare, and that calm demeanor of his works in his favor; people consistently underestimate him, whether they're his enemies or supposed allies. That miscalculation on their part became pretty obvious when he torched Tojou's headquarters on his way out of the yakuza scene entirely. It was a statement that nobody saw coming.
