Mai comes across as a laid-back, easygoing kind of person—the type of girl who doesn't take things too seriously. She was actually Kyōko Haida's only real friend for a while, which says something about how isolated Kyōko was. But things fell apart pretty hard when Kyōko called her out over some guy Mai was dating. The confrontation spooked Mai enough that she basically started avoiding Kyōko after that, turning what had been a genuine friendship into something fractured and distant.
