The main character—a cheerful, goofball red-head with big round glasses who radiates energy. His parents both have ninja backgrounds; his father still works as one, though not especially successfully, while his mother mostly retired from the kunoichi life. He enrolled at the Ninjutsu Academy wanting to follow in their footsteps, but with higher ambitions—he's determined to become an actual competent ninja, unlike his old man.
That said, he's got his work cut out for him. Like the rest of Class 1-Ha, he gets distracted constantly, preferring to hang out and mess around with his best friends Kirimaru and Shibei rather than buckle down and study. His grades probably reflect that.
Being stuck on the Health Committee doesn't help either. The thing's infamous for attracting bad luck, and he's basically the committee's favorite target—constantly running into misfortune of every conceivable kind. Between the goofing off and the constant jinxes, actually becoming a skilled ninja seems like a pretty steep hill to climb.
