Yasaburou is a tanuki living in modern Kyoto, best known as the third son of Souichirou Shimogamo. He's basically obsessed with watching how humans, tanuki, and tengu go about their lives—it's kind of his thing. After his father died, Yasaburou and his three brothers got stuck with the notorious reputation of being Kyoto's "four tanuki losers," a label that's followed them ever since as a stain on the tanuki name. But he doesn't seem too bothered by it. He spends his days shapeshifting into human form to observe the interactions between humans and tanuki, living pretty much however he wants while also looking after Akadama-sensei, an elderly tengu.
