Masachika is the series' main protagonist and, by most standards, the luckiest guy in his high school—he gets to sit next to Alisa every day. Problem is, he's a chronic insomniac who couldn't care less about class and floats through school on pure apathy.
He's fluent in Russian, though he pretends otherwise whenever Alisa speaks it. Turns out his grandfather was obsessed with Russia, and Masachika picked up the language partly from him and partly from late-night TV binges. It's one of his small secrets, but not his biggest one.
Masachika used to be part of the Suou family—and not just any member, but the designated heir. Everything changed when his father left and took him along. The deal was brutal: he could go with his dad, but he'd have to sever all ties and never acknowledge anyone from the Suou household as family. That included his own sister Yuki and his mother Yumi. Yuki inherited the position he gave up.
Before the split, he was the golden child—a prodigy groomed by his maternal grandfather Gensei for an elite future. But watching Yuki struggle with asthma while his mother ignored him wore him down completely. Eventually he just broke. After the divorce, the guilt of "abandoning" Yuki compounded everything, and he's been unmotivated and self-pitying ever since.
He harbors a secret crush on Alisa and jumps at any chance to help her, but he's convinced he's not good enough for her and that she only flirts to mess with him.
Despite everything, Yuki remains the most important person in his life—his love for her is absolute.
Currently, he serves as a Student Council General Affairs Officer and is running for Vice-President, with Alisa running for President.
