R2-D2 is best known as the scrappy astromech droid who somehow managed to survive just about everything the galaxy threw at him. He first showed up as part of Queen Amidala's droid crew aboard her Nubian royal starship, and he was the only one of that team to make it out in one piece.
From there, R2 became Anakin Skywalker's go-to astromech during the Clone Wars era, handling repairs and navigation with characteristic beeping and attitude.
