Kawauso, whose name literally means "river otter," is a youkai character from GeGeGe no Kitarō. He's best known for haunting the Obebe Swamp, which is why fans often call him by that location name as well. He first showed up in the Shonen Magazine story "Youkai of Obebe Swamp," and the swamp setting basically became his whole thing—hence the alternate name Obebe.
